What is a Channel?
The C-Channel or Channel, is a common structural steel component used in the building and construction industry and by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's) in various applications that require more flexibility than what WF Beams or Standard American Beams can provide. OEM's will use Channels as frame components for heavy machinery or large motors, or to build housings around the same. The large flat surface on the channel provides a good base to bolt or mechanically attach sheet metal or plate to form the outer protection of the housing. Channels can also be connected to each other to form very strong and flexible structures, with weight savings over more traditional structural sections.
