What is Structural Tubing?
Structural tubing is tubing generally used for structural or support purposes. Structural tubing is produced in a process that uses flat sheets or strips passing through a series of progressive dies that form the sheet into a square or rectangle. A longitudinal seam is created by the two edges becoming mechanically joined. In the final step, the joined seam is heated by a high-frequency electrical current to form a bond without filler metal. There are several different types of manufacturing structural tubing:
- ERW (Electric Resistance Welded)
- DOM (Drawn over a Mandrel)
- Spiral Weld
Welds on structural tubing are tested to ensure that the product can meet the specifications required by the corresponding governing agency. Contact Arbor/Metals Inc. for your structural steel tubing needs.
